Selection of the material for the expansion tank

Release time:

2025-06-27

The selection of the material for the expansion tank should be based on the usage environment, the characteristics of the medium, the pressure level and the cost. It can mainly be classified into the following categories:

1.Tank material

Stainless Steel (304/316L)

Application scenarios: Drinking water systems, food/pharmaceutical industries, high corrosive environments (such as seawater, chemical media).

Advantages: Strong corrosion resistance, high hygiene standards, long lifespan.

Note: 316L stainless steel contains molybdenum, making it more suitable for environments with high chloride ion content.

Carbon steel (Q235B/ lined with rubber)

Application scenarios: Industrial heating, closed-loop water systems, non-corrosive media.

Advantages: Strong pressure-bearing capacity, low cost.

Note: It needs to be lined with an anti-corrosion coating (such as epoxy resin), otherwise it is prone to rust.

2.Airbag/Membrane Material

Butyl rubber

Application scenarios: Drinking water, HVAC systems.

Advantages: Low gas permeability (good pressure retention), High temperature resistance (110).

Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) rubber

Application scenarios: High-temperature heating systems (130), industrial hot water.

Advantages: Resistant to aging and ozone, but has a slightly higher gas permeability than Butyl rubber.

Fluorine rubber (FKM)

Application scenarios: Strong acids, strong alkalis, and oil-based media.

Advantages: Extremely strong resistance to chemical corrosion, but with a high cost.

Key points: Water quality (corrosiveness), temperature, system pressure, and hygiene requirements directly affect the lifespan of the material.
