As a kind of high efficiency and energy saving temperature regulation equipment, heat pump is widely used in home and business places. The inner shell in the heat pump system is one of its core components, responsible for protecting and supporting the internal components to ensure the stable operation of the system. This paper will introduce the type, function and application of heat pump inner shell in different scenarios in detail.

1. Heat pump compressor inner shell
Function: The main role of the inner shell of the heat pump compressor is to wrap the core components of the compressor, such as the motor and piston, provide air tight protection, prevent refrigerant leakage, and isolate noise and vibration. The inner shell is usually made of cast iron or aluminum alloy, which has good resistance to high pressure and refrigerant corrosion.
Common problems:
Weld cracking: Long-term vibration may lead to weld cracking, which in turn causes refrigerant leakage.
Corrosion: In salt spray environments (such as coastal areas), the inner shell is prone to corrosion, and the tightness should be checked regularly.

2. Heat exchanger inner shell
Structure: The inner shell of the heat exchanger is usually a cylindrical metal shell, and the copper tube or titanium tube is arranged inside for the heat exchange between the refrigerant and water. The wall thickness of the inner shell should match the working pressure, and the working pressure of the ground source heat pump can reach 4MPa. Inner wall finish is required to reduce dirt adhesion.
Maintenance: In order to maintain the efficient operation of the heat exchanger, it is recommended to clean the scale every two years (which may need to be shortened to one year in hard water areas) to avoid a decrease in energy efficiency of more than 15%.

3. The overall internal frame of the heat pump unit
Function: The overall internal frame of the heat pump unit is used to fix the evaporator, condenser and other components to support the rigidity of the system. The inner frame material is usually galvanized steel plate or engineering plastic to achieve the purpose of rust prevention and lightweight.
Optimization direction:
Weight reduction design: Through topological optimization and other methods, reduce the weight of the internal frame and reduce transportation costs.
Modular structure: Modular design, easy to install and maintain on site.

4. Heat pump inner shell in special scenarios
High pressure challenges: In high pressure systems such as CO₂ heat pumps, the inner shell requires multiple layers of composite materials (such as carbon fiber + resin) to withstand working pressures of up to 10MPa. The cost of this inner shell may account for 20%-30% of the cost of the whole machine.
Matters needing attention
Selection basis: Select products certified by ISO 5149 (Refrigeration system Safety Standard) to ensure the safety and reliability of the inner shell.
Troubleshooting: If dew or frost occurs in the inner shell, it may be caused by damage to the insulation layer or insufficient refrigerant, and it needs to be stopped for maintenance.
Environmental requirements: The EU F-Gas regulations have strict testing standards for the sealing of the shell of fluorine-containing refrigerant equipment to ensure the environmental performance of the equipment.
