Plate heat exchanger's gasket functions

Release time:

2025-02-19

The functions of the flat gasket for the plate heat exchanger are as follows:

1. Medium Isolation and Sealing Assurance
Through elastic deformation and precise fit with the plate groove, it achieves physical isolation of the hot and cold media in adjacent flow channels, preventing the leakage of the working medium and the intermixing of different fluids. When a double-seal structure is adopted, if the first seal fails, the second seal can still maintain the isolation of the medium from the outside, ensuring system safety redundancy.

2. Operating Condition Adaptation and Stress Compensation
Under operating temperature fluctuations (-50°C to 180°C) and pressure pulsations (0.1 - 2.5 MPa), the gasket compensates for the displacement difference caused by the thermal expansion and contraction of the plates through the elastic deformation of the material, maintaining a continuous and effective seal. The specially designed waveform cross-section can disperse the mechanical compression force and reduce the risk of local stress concentration.

3. Chemical Corrosion Resistance Protection
According to the characteristics of the medium, materials such as nitrile rubber (oil-resistant), ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (acid and alkali resistant), or fluorine rubber (resistant to strong corrosive media) are selected to form a chemically inert barrier to prevent the direct erosion of the metal plates by the medium. It can withstand a chemical environment with a pH range of 2 - 12 under typical operating conditions.

4. System Safety Protection Mechanism
When an insurance recess structure is adopted, the gap between the two seals is connected to the atmosphere. Even if the inner seal fails, the medium is preferentially discharged to the outside rather than entering the adjacent medium flow channel, avoiding the cross-contamination of process fluids. This design can reduce the risk of fluid crossover to the industry safety standard of ≤0.01%.

5. Dynamic Sealing Maintenance Capacity
During the periodic disassembly and maintenance, the gasket achieves the reconstruction of the sealing interface through the resilience characteristic and, in combination with the torque control of the compression bolts (usually requiring 20 - 40 N·m), ensures that the helium leak detection standard of ≤5×10^-4 mbar·L/s can still be achieved after repeated assembly.
